≡ Acquiescence
Am I supposed to acquiesce?
Should I capitulate?
Why would you want my obedience
When it’s wrapped up in my hate?
How should I approach you?
What’s the protocol?
When standing in your presence
Should I kneel or face the wall?
My world is not your kingdom
My back is not your throne
My head and heart aren’t in your thrall
I’m not your paving stone
Are we still worthy within your sphere?
Do we still make the grade?
Or are the citizens unsuitable
In the monarchy you’ve made?
The place I used to call my home
Is no longer home to me
I and mine have been replaced
By amok democracy
The invaders have come and displaced us
And usurped our sovereignty
Expatriate underprivileged masses
From a corrupt hegemony
Now you plan to hedge your bets
And allow our assimilation
You’ve reduced our banner to a tatter of rags
And given away our nation.
